Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and winter break.
Many of you spent time in December helping those less fortunate through EWMS Teen Korps activities such as the Embrace-A-Family gift drive and the Feed-A-Family stuff-a-thon, among others. We wanted to pass on some thanks we’ve received for your efforts on these projects:
First, from the Embrace-A-Family gift drive, led by Patrick Gleason, we received a letter from Jewish Family Services, the agency that coordinated the drive, thanking our members for sponsoring the family of 5 for Christmas and the elderly woman for Hanukkah. They shared a sample of a thank you note they received, which stated, “I would not have been able to celebrate the holidays and give gifts to my family without your help. I just want you to know how happy you made me and my children. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for thinking about my family and for all these thoughtful presents.”
Also, Kids Korps sent us the following email regarding the success of the Feeding America Feed-a-Family stuff-a-thon –
The 2nd Annual Feed-a-Family Project in collaboration with Feeding America San Diego was a huge success, thanks to your hard work and passion for making a positive impact this holiday season!
During our project, volunteers:
- Packed 2,552 BackPack bags for students
- Sorted through 6,015 pounds of Reclamation, the equivalent of about 3,609 meals
- Recycled 3,225 pounds of food that did not pass the food safety standards, and
- Donated 292 pounds of food for families facing hunger throughout San Diego county!
Did you know there are 441,000 people facing hunger in San Diego County, and 1 in 4 children don’t have a reliable source of food at home? Thanks to you many local families and children this holiday season will receive healthy meals!
Kudos to EWMS Teen Korps members for participating in these and other recent service projects, which helped make the holidays brighter for those less fortunate in our community. Mrs. Gleason took some great photos of each of these projects, which are posted on the photos page.
Congratulations on all you accomplished in 2012, and we look forward to helping you continue your important service work in 2013!
P.S. On a separate note, please remember there’s a change in location for our monthly chapter meeting this Thursday, January 10th – it will be held in ROOM #55 at lunchtime. Please join us to decide on upcoming service projects for the 2nd quarter of 2013 so we can keep up the good work!
