As mentioned at our EWMS Teen Korps chapter meeting earlier this month, our chapter is participating in the Embrace-A-Family holiday donation drive this year, led by EWMS Teen Korps teen leader, Patrick Gleason. Our chapter is “embracing” the following two families, the first for Hanukkah and the second for Christmas –
1) An 83-year old lady who is a Holocaust survivor, rescued from Auschwitz. She lost all of her family during the war, and later moved with her husband to the United States; sadly, her husband died suddenly from lung cancer 10 years ago. She now lives alone on a very limited income.
Thanks to the generosity of our Teen Korps families, all requested items on her Hanukkah wish list have been committed to, with the exception of a few pairs of warm socks (size 8-11). If you’d like to sign up to donate these, please visit our website sign-up page at this link. PLEASE NOTE: We will be meeting in Warren Hall at lunchtime on the Thursday after Thanksgiving break, (Thurs, 11/29) to collect all the donated gifts for her and make Hanukkah cards. Please click here to contact us if you have signed up to donate a gift but will not be able to attend the meeting! If so, we’ll need to arrange a time to receive it before Nov. 29th.
2) A 38-year old single mother of four who was abandoned by her husband 2 years ago to go back to Guatemala. She is currently working in the field picking basil and making minimum wage. Being alone and with minimal social support has been very difficult for her as she needs to play both roles as mother and provider for her four children. She has a 16-year old and 3-year old daughter and a 4-year old and 2-year old son.
Thanks to those of you who already signed up to donate gifts on this family’s Christmas wish list. There are still opportunities to donate a few more items, such as clothing and books; please visit this link to view their specific wishlist and/or sign up. PLEASE NOTE: We will be meeting in Warren Hall at lunchtime on Thursday, December 6th to collect this family’s Christmas gifts and make cards for them. Please click here to contact us if you have signed up to donate gifts but will not be able to attend the meeting! If so we’ll need to arrange a time to receive your donated gifts before Dec. 6th.
Here’s the Embrace-A-Family flier (please ignore the dropoff information as we will be collecting the donated gifts at EWMS on the two dates mentioned above) –
