1) A fun, new chapter project was just added! THIS Saturday, October 27th the Cardiff Halloween Carnival from 3-6pm (which benefits the Cardiff elementary schools) needs EWMS Teen Korps volunteers to help at booths with a variety of tasks such as assisting with the games, the cake walk (sort of like musical chairs), and working in the popcorn/drinks booth. Or, if you’d like to wear a scary costume (NOT TOO GORY for young kids!), you may be needed in the haunted house, either working at the entrance or placed inside to “spook” the kids (limited spots available for this task). For more details, click here or to sign up, click here. EWMS Teen Korps member Brianna Kantorovich and her mom, Elizabeth Kantorovich, are Project Leaders for this event. Please contact Mrs. Kantorovich at 858-243-2089 with questions.
2) EWMS Teen Korps member Tommy Merritt is leading a solo project/donation drive, collecting blankets, jackets, gently used clothing for men, women and children, new socks, and toiletries to distribute to the homeless through a project called Embrace the Streets. Please bring donations to school on Thursday, November 1st, when Mrs. Merritt will be waiting outside the library before school starts to pick up your donations, or you can bring them to our EWMS Teen Korps chapter meeting in Warren Hall at lunchtime. Click here for more details. If your donations are too bulky to transport to school, please contact us for pick-up.
3) One of our favorite chapter projects is coming up soon at TERI Equestrian Center on Sat, Nov. 3rd from 10:30am-1pm. This year, we’re surprised to see that so far, we’ve only had 2 sign-ups for TERI. Last year, we had a wait list for this project! Since then, several of our members enjoyed it so much that they’ve continued volunteering at TERI regularly on their own. This project involves assisting the TERI staff with Equestrian Therapy for children with developmental and learning disabilities, as well as grooming the horses and cleaning up the barn area. In many cases, Teen Korps members are allowed to assist with leading the horse for the therapeutic riding clients of TERI, which can be quite a thrill. This amazing therapy puts huge smiles on the faces of the TERI clients as they ride the horses, and memories of these smiles will stay with you for a long time! Please click here for more project details or click here to sign up for this project.
4) Remember to come to our next EWMS Teen Korps chapter meeting on Thursday, Nov. 1st at lunchtime in Warren Hall, when we’ll announce our schedule of chapter projects for the first quarter of 2013!
See you there, if not sooner!
