Above: Our EWMS Teen Korps monthly chapter meeting, April 2012
A few reminders and a couple invitations for you this week –
- This week is LAST CALL for donations to the African Library Project! We only have until the end of this week to gather books and supplies to start a new library in a town in Ghana, which will be called the Twenedrase Community Library. Please bring your paperback books for grades K-8, plus puzzles, flashcards and school supplies to the EWMS Solana Beach library lobby and drop them in the bin. You may have seen the African Library Project mentioned in the local Del Mar and Solana Beach newspapers a week ago, along with a couple of photos, but if you missed it, please click here to visit the “Articles” page.
- Speaking of the African Library Project, Ms. Tirona and the project’s teen leaders, Erin Bentel, Elizabeth Honeycutt and Laila Voss, could use a couple more helpers this Sunday, April 29th from 11am to 1pm, when we’ll be boxing up the donated books and supplies in preparation for shipping. This Sunday, we’ll start at 11am and wrap up no later than 1pm at Erin Bentel’s house, which is only a couple of miles from EWMS. Please email me back if you’re available and can lend a hand! A BIG thank you to the Bentel family for picking up and storing the books at their house during April, hosting the packing party, and for being such big supporters of this great project. Thanks also to our wonderful EWMS Solana Beach librarian, Ms. Pat Tirona, for bringing the project to our attention and inviting us to partner with the library to help make it happen!
- This Sunday, April 29th, we also have at least 2 spots available at the Serving the Homeless chapter project at St. Vincent de Paul in downtown San Diego from 4-7 pm. Members who have participated in this project in the past have all commented about how they felt they really made a difference during this event, so please don’t miss the opportunity to participate in this one, which is our last of the school year at St. Vincent de Paul. If you can join our co-chapter leader, Mrs. Kelly Afsahi, and her daughter/teen leader, Kayleen at St. Vincent de Paul on Sunday, please reply to this email. Project details can be found by clicking here.
- Please remember to log your service hours online at this link. As the school year winds down, it’s very important that all EWMS Teen Korps members gain credit for all the valuable community service performed this year. Please let us know if you need help with this, or feel free to contact Kids Korps at (760) 452-2676 if you’ve forgotten your password/logon ID.
I hope you enjoy the above photo (also posted on the photos link), of the EWMS Teen Korps members who attended the April Teen Korps chapter meeting (there are 70 members total so we were missing a few!)
As the Teen Korps motto goes, our EWMS Teen Korps members are all “Leaders for Life.” Thanks to all for your hard work and commitment to service!
